Let’s face it - English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren’t invented in England or French fries in France . Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren’t sweet, are meat. Quicksand works slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig. If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn’t the plural of booth, beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell? How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out and in which, an alarm goes off by going on.Why is it, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible? Why doesn’t Buick rhyme with quick? And why don’t bomb, comb, or tomb rhyme?

Christmas Caroling
Following worship this Sunday, December 13th we will have a pizza lunch provided by the Pathfinders and then go caroling to members and friends of our congregation who aren’t able to get out as much as they’d like. Please join us!

Sunday School Christmas Program
Please join us on Sunday, December 20th during our worship service as the Sunday School classes present their annual Christmas Program. Through reading and song, our youth will reenact the story of Jesus’ birth over 2,000 years ago.

Mission Fundraising Bake Sale *NEW*
The Mission Fundraising Team is hosting a Christmas bake sale on Sunday, December 20th following worship. You are invited to bring either prepackaged pies and goodies that people can grab-and-go, or individual Christmas cookies that people can pick-and-choose and create a platter of their own. Items will not be priced - instead, donations will be accepted. This is a great way for all of us to get a variety of treats to share with loved ones during the Christmas holiday! Please consider donating some of your favorite Christmas cookies, candies, breads, pies, etc.

Christmas Eve Candlelight Services
Please join us on Christmas Eve as we celebrate our Savior’s birth through the traditional Moravian Candlelight Service. We will have two services, one at 4:00 pm and one at 8:00 pm.
FYI, the 4:00 service tends to be the one a lot of people attend. (It’s usually standing room only.) If your family’s schedule allows it, we would encourage you to consider attending the 8:00 service to help balance attendance numbers and space considerations.

“Morning Star” Singers
To sign up (either individually or as a group) to sing “Morning Star” at either the 4:00 pm or 8:00 pm Christmas Eve service, speak to a Worship Committee member or Pastor Jason.

Moravian Blanket Sale
Shari Liesch is selling blankets that have a Moravian design, a picture of our church, or and your family name (or a name of your choice) embroidered on them. The blankets are $25 and all proceeds will go to support missions. They would make great Christmas presents! Sign up sheets are available by the volunteer center.

Christmas Carol Sing-Along *NEW*

Please join us on Sunday, December 27th at 10:00 am for a Christmas Carol Sing-Along! There are so many beloved and favorite Christmas songs, and only so many services in which we can save them. So come to this special service with your requests in mind as we offer worship to our Newborn King through the beautiful carols of Christmas!

Nursery Room Helpers Needed

We are currently trying to put together a schedule for an adult to be in the nursery room to help take care of the children on a rotation so that some of the other parents may enjoy the service. Something for your Heart 11-9-09

In “The Wounded Healer,” Henri Nouwen retells a tale from ancient India: Four royal brothers decided each to master a special ability. Time went by, and the brothers met to reveal what they had learned.

“I have mastered a science,” said the first, “by which I can take but a bone of some creature and create the flesh that goes with it.”

“I,” said the second, “know how to grow that creature’s skin and hair if there is flesh on its bones.”

The third said, “I am able to create its limbs if I have flesh, the skin, and the hair.”

“And I,” concluded the fourth, “know how to give life to that creature if its form is complete.”

Thereupon the brothers went into the jungle to find a bone so they could demonstrate their specialities. As fate would have it, the bone they found was a lion’s. One added flesh to the bone, the second grew hide and hair, the third completed it with matching limbs, and the fourth gave the lion life. Shaking its mane, the ferocious beast arose and jumped on his creators. He killed them all and vanished contentedly into the jungle.

We too have the capacity to create what can devour us. Goals and dreams can consume us. Possessions and property can turn and destroy us–unless we first seek God’s kingdom and righteousness, and allow Him to breathe into what we make of life.

Sunday Morning Bible Study
On November 15th, 22nd, and 29th during the Sunday School hour, Pastor Jason will offer a Bible Study entitled “Misunderstood People of the Bible.” Each week we’ll look at a different character from the Bible that has been misunderstood. Join us as we learn more about these individuals and how we are often misunderstood as well as how we misunderstand others.
November 15th - “Doubting” Thomas, who didn’t believe the resurrection
November 22nd - Cain, who killed his brother Abel
November 29th - Tamar, who slept with her father-in-law Judah

Trip to Salvation Army *NEW*

On Saturday, November 21st the youth groups will do a Scavenger Hunt for food at Copps Grocery Store on the corner of Ballard and Northland. The purpose of this exercise is to learn about how far (or sometimes how short) money goes when we need to buy food. We will then take the food from the Scavenger Hunt and give it to the Salvation Army and take a tour of their facility. All are welcome to join us!

Healing Service
After worship on Sunday, November 22nd, we will have a Healing Service. This is a brief but meaningful service that allows you to pray for healing for yourself or others. Please join us!

Thanksgiving Eve Lovefeast
Please join us on Wednesday, November 25th at 7:00 pm for a Thanksgiving Eve Lovefeast! The Lovefeast tradition traces its roots back to 1727 (the renewal of the Moravian Church). During a worship service, the members of the Unitas Fratrum (“Unity of the Brethren,” who would be-come the Moravian Church) who were living on the estate of Count Nicholas Ludwig von Zinzendorf in Germany, experienced a pro-found sense of unity and forgiveness through the power of the Holy Spirit. After the worship service was over, they congregated on the lawn outside the church and continued in fellow-ship. Zinzendorf, seeing all this, was reminded of the “agape meals” of the early church where the Christians would eat and fellowship together. He had food sent to them so that they could continue to be with one another. Today, the lovefeast is used to mark special events in congre-gational life and as a way to give thanks to God for our church family! Please join us!

Sugarcake and Lovefeast Buns
We are in need of an individual or individuals who will make Moravian Sugarcake and / or Lovefeast Buns for our Thanksgiving Eve Service. If interested, please talk to Pastor Jason or someone from the Worship Committee.

Church Christmas Decorating *NEW*
After worship on Sunday, November 29th we will have a potluck lunch and then decorate our church for the Advent and Christmas season. Please join us for this fun time of fellowship as we get in the holiday spirit!

Unity Prayer Watch *NEW*
The Moravian Unity Prayer Watch is an ongoing effort by the Worldwide Moravian Church to have a Moravian somewhere on earth praying for the church and the world 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Freedom Moravian Church, along with Veedum Moravian Church in Wisconsin and Bethel, Goshen, Canaan, and Shepherd of the Prairie Moravian Churches in North Dakota have been assigned Thursday, December 3rd. The 6 churches have each taken 4 hours of that day. Our 4 hours are 2–3 am, 8–9 am, 2–3 pm, and 8–9 pm. If you would like to sign up for a 15-minute (or more) span during one of those times, please sign up at the Volunteer Center.

New Members Class
Pastor Jason will be offering a New Members Class on Sunday, December 6th and Sunday, December 13th during the Sunday School hour. If you or someone you know is interested in membership, they are asked to attend both these classes. New members will be received during worship on Sunday, December 13th.

Chimes Choir
The Chimes Choir will begin practices on Wednesday, October 7th at 7:00 pm and you are invited to join! You don’t have to be able to read music and the practices are lots of fun. If you are interested or have questions, please reply to this email or talk to Jayne Ewald or Marilyn Zimmer.

Power of One
The Power of One Christian rock concert will be on Saturday, October 10th from 12:30 until 10:00 pm at Appleton North High School. The youth group from Christian Faith Moravian Church in DeForest will be joining us for the concert as well as a lock-in at church after the concert. If you are a youth who would like to attend this event or an adult who would be willing to help chaperone it (we need at least one male and one female adult chaperone), please reply to this email. Moravian Hymn Writing Workshop

Saturday, October 10th at the Lake Mills Moravian Church. Lunch provided. Registration - Coffee and Rolls 9:00 a.m. Hymn Writing Workshop - 9:30 to noon. Pre-Synod Meeting
On Sunday, October 11th at 2:30 pm, there will be a pre-Synod area meeting at the Green Bay West Moravian Church. This meeting is a planning meeting in advance of the Northern Province Synod in Bethlehem, PA next summer that Pastor Jason and Jayne Ewald will be attending as our church’s delegates. Our Joint Board will be attending this meeting, but you are invited to attend as well. We will be discussing matters of importance to the Moravian Church, specifically focusing on finances and how our church’s health plan works. If you would like to attend, please RSVP by replying to this email so that we know how many to prepare for. A light supper will be served at 5 pm and it is anticipated that the meeting will not go past 7 pm.

Mt. Morris Woodcutter’s Day
The 5th annual Mt. Morris Woodcutter’s Day will be on Saturday, October 17th from 8:00 am - 3:30 pm. Lunch will be provided. If you would like to help Mt. Chili Supper and Bazaar
